Trail Description
Little Vedder Trail in Chilliwack is an easy, flat out-and-back along the Vedder River that’s made for relaxed movement more than mountain views. At 8.2 km with only about 159 m of gain and a max elevation around 62 m, it’s friendly for most walkers and casual runners, and usually takes about 2 hours at a steady pace. Think riverfront stroll with lots of room to stretch your legs rather than a summit mission.
The trail starts near Vedder River Campground and follows the Vedder River toward Crossing Park, staying mostly wide and well‑graded. You’ll get constant river access, a mix of forested sections and open stretches, and a good chance to spot herons and other birds along the water. Little Vedder Trail is basically a shorter, lighter version of the Vedder Rotary Trail South, so it’s a nice option if you want the river experience without committing to a huge day.
Recent visitors call it a great trail for running, walking, and fishing, and that sums it up well: expect steady foot traffic, leashed dogs, and anglers along the banks, especially on weekends. It’s open year‑round, but after heavy rain the lower spots can get muddy and slick, so waterproof shoes help. Go early or later in the day for quieter conditions and easier parking near the campground, and bring a light layer since wind off the Vedder River can feel cool even on mild Chilliwack days.
