Trail Description
Island 22 Regional Park Trail in Chilliwack is more of a relaxed riverside wander than a true “hike,” which is exactly why locals like it. This 3.2 km loop is almost completely flat with only about 54 m of gain, so it works well for a quick 45-minute walk, a low-key stretch after work, or a mellow outing with kids or grandparents.
The loop follows the dike and riverside paths with open views of the Fraser River and the surrounding Chilliwack mountains on clear days. It’s a simple route with wide, easy footing, and people mention enjoying quiet lunch-hour strolls, sunsets, and casual birdwatching rather than chasing big summit views.
Right now, parts of the dike and the far end of the loop are washed out and eroding near the beach area, so expect closures and be ready to turn around instead of forcing the full loop. The trail itself is mostly flat and not very muddy, fine for toddlers and strollers with decent wheels, but bring bug spray because mosquitoes can be aggressive, especially in warmer months. Dogs are technically supposed to be leashed in sections, though many owners ignore this, so keep that in mind if you have a reactive dog, and watch the gate time because the park closes at sunset.
