Trail Description

Cheam Lake in Chilliwack is the kind of place you go when you want an easy walk, big mountain views, and some quiet. This 4.5 km out-and-back route is almost completely flat, with only about 20 m of gain, and usually takes around an hour. It’s more of a relaxed nature walk than a hike, and it’s a solid choice if you want to stretch your legs without working up a sweat.

The Cheam Lake trail is a mix of wide gravel paths, short loops, and a little out-and-back section that leads across a floating bridge to a lakeside viewpoint. You wander through mossy trees and shrubs, along a small creek, and out to open views of the lake with mountains rising behind it. Birdwatching is a highlight here, with lots of wetland life, turtles if you’re lucky, and calm water that makes for great photos on a clear day.

Trail maintenance is good and the gravel holds up well even in the rain, but it can get buggy, so bring mosquito spray, especially in warmer months. Most of the route is very easy, though there are some stairs near the floating bridge and one steeper, narrow section that’s not ideal for wheelchairs or strollers, despite the accessible viewing platform near the parking lot. It’s usually quiet, so solo hikers should stay aware in the lot and on quieter days, and plan for simple outhouse-style bathrooms and no dogs allowed; Cheam Lake is a mellow, year-round local spot to unwind, not a big backcountry mission.
