Trail Description

Wagon Trail in Sechelt is one of those Sunshine Coast loops that feels surprisingly quiet given how close it is to town. The 9.5 km route winds through classic coastal forest, with enough elevation gain – about 403 m up to roughly 731 m – to get your legs working without turning into a slog. Most hikers wrap it up in just over three hours, making it a solid half-day outing.

The loop moves through dense second-growth forest, crossing small creeks on sturdy little bridges and passing mossy logs and ferns that stay green year-round. Views are mostly about the forest itself rather than big open vistas, so expect a calm, enclosed feel instead of sweeping lookouts. It’s a shared-use trail, so you might see the odd mountain bike, but recent hikers report long stretches without seeing anyone.

Right now, people are calling Wagon Trail a beautiful forest trail with clear paths, good bridges, and very little traffic, so it still feels pretty quiet and relaxed. The moderate grade and loop layout make it easy to follow, but bring decent footwear since sections can get slick after rain and shaded spots hold mud and roots. This Sechelt trail is hikeable most of the year; in winter you might hit some snow or slush higher up, while spring and fall bring the best trail conditions and cooler temperatures for the climb.
