Trail Description

Sechelt Heritage Trail is one of those quick, no-stress walks that locals in Sechelt actually use, not just talk about. At 3.4 km return with only about 29 m of elevation gain and a high point around 145 m, it’s more of a relaxed stroll than a hike, and most people are done in under an hour. If you’re looking for an easy way to stretch your legs near town without committing to a full-on adventure, this one fits the bill.

The Sechelt Heritage Trail runs as an out-and-back through second-growth forest, with a smooth, mostly flat path that works well for walking, running, or a mellow spin on a mountain bike. You’ll move through a mix of evergreens and maples, with filtered light, soft dirt underfoot, and enough space on the trail to walk side by side and actually talk. It’s not about big summit views here; it’s about a quiet, shaded forest loop you can hit before work, with kids, or with the dog on leash.

Recent reports mention oyster mushrooms along the nearby Brown Sugar area, so keep an eye on the logs and stumps if you’re into mushroom spotting, but leave the harvesting to those who know what they’re doing. The Sechelt Heritage Trail is open year-round and handles the Coast’s usual rain fairly well, though you should still expect some mud and slick roots after a wet stretch. Light hikers or trail runners are plenty, and because it’s so close to Sechelt, this is an easy go-to option for a quick nature fix in any season.
