Trail Description
Huggies Trail in Sechelt, BC is a short, punchy out-and-back that packs more of a workout than the 3.9 km distance suggests. With about 274 m of steady elevation gain to around 294 m, it’s a solid moderate hike that most people polish off in around an hour and a half. It’s close to town, easy to reach, and gives you a quick hit of forest and cardio without committing to a full-day mission.
The trail climbs through classic Sunshine Coast forest, with a clear path that’s easy to follow from the trailhead. It’s mostly in the trees, but if you push a bit beyond the official end, you’ll get a partial view over Porpoise Bay that gives you that “OK, this was worth it” feeling. At the top, stay right for about 20 m when you hit the forest access road, then keep grinding uphill for another 50 m for the best vantage point.
Recent reports say the old route is getting pretty overgrown with a number of trees down, so stick to the main Huggies Trail line and expect some rougher sections and step-overs. Footing can be slick after rain, and the grade is steady, so bring decent shoes and be ready to work on the way up and watch your knees on the way down. Huggies Trail is hikeable most of the year in Sechelt, but late spring through fall offers the driest conditions and the clearest peek at Porpoise Bay.
