Trail Description

Branch 1 Loop in Sechelt is a mellow forest loop that gives you that classic Sunshine Coast vibe without beating you up. It’s about 10 km with around 339 m of gain, topping out near 694 m, and most hikers treat it as an easy half-day wander rather than a grind. Expect a steady walk that usually takes just under 3 hours at a relaxed pace.

The loop rolls along old forest roads and singletrack, so the walking is straightforward, with gentle climbs and long, easy descents. You’ll spend most of your time in second-growth forest with filtered views, the odd opening where you can catch glimpses toward Davis Bay and the surrounding hills, and plenty of quiet stretches where you won’t see many other people. It’s popular with local mountain bikers and runners, but traffic is usually light enough that it still feels calm.

Branch 1 Loop is generally hikeable year-round in Sechelt, though winter and early spring can bring mud, slick roots, and patches of snow or ice higher up, so decent footwear is a good idea. Expect a few puddles after rain and keep an ear out for bikes on the wider road sections. Dogs are allowed on leash, and the loop nature of the trail makes it easy to shorten your day by turning around early if the weather turns or you’re just out for some quick forest time.
