Trail Description

Suncoaster Trail in Sechelt, BC is a short forest escape that feels a lot farther from town than it really is. This 5.1 km out-and-back route has gentle grades, about 145 m of gain, and tops out around 244 m, so it’s very approachable if you want a quick leg-stretcher without committing to a big climb. Most people wrap it up in around an hour and a half, making it easy to slot into a half day on the Sunshine Coast.

The Suncoaster Trail walks through classic coastal forest, with stretches of mossy ground, second-growth trees, and sections that can feel surprisingly quiet given how close you are to Sechelt. The path is wide in many spots and well-defined, so it works well for hiking, walking, or a relaxed trail run. Views are more about the forest atmosphere than big mountain panoramas, but the calm, shaded feel is a nice break on warm days.

Recent reports describe the Suncoaster Trail as straightforward and easy to follow, with light traffic, so you may not see many other people once you’re a short distance from the trailhead. Expect some roots and the odd muddy patch after rain, but nothing technical for most hikers with decent footwear. It’s hikeable year-round in Sechelt most winters, though fall and spring can be wetter, so bring a light layer and be ready for slick sections in the shade.
