Trail Description

Old Woods Trail in Sechelt is short on distance but big on character. This 2.9 km out-and-back route wanders through classic Sunshine Coast forest, climbing about 110 m to a high point around 284 m, and usually takes under an hour. It’s listed as easy, but recent hikers say it feels more like “easy on paper, moderate in real life.”

The path dives into deep, mossy woods with a mix of gentle stretches and punchy little climbs. You’ll cross small creeks, step over a few logs, and follow flagging tape through quiet second-growth forest that feels far more remote than its stats suggest. Views are mostly about the forest itself: big trees, filtered light, and that damp coastal-air vibe rather than big open vistas.

Current reports say to expect steep ups and downs with rope assists in a few spots, plus some logs over water that can be slick after rain. The Old Woods Trail can be easy to miss in places, so keep an eye out for flagging tape and consider downloading a map before you go. It’s a good choice for Sechelt locals looking for a quick, secluded outing most of the year, but wear decent footwear, go slow on the steeper pitches, and be ready for mud in the wetter months.
