Trail Description

Kinnikinnick Park Red Trail in Sechelt is the kind of walk you do when you just want to move your body and clear your head without breaking a sweat. At 2.9 km with only 36 m of elevation gain, it’s more of a relaxed forest stroll than a hike, usually wrapped up in under 40 minutes. Locals use it as an easy loop to stretch the legs, walk the dog, or get a quiet break in the trees close to town.

The trail winds through second-growth forest with soft, mostly flat footing and plenty of shade. You’ll pass through tall evergreens, patches of salal, and the occasional opening where you’re reminded you’re still in a Sechelt neighbourhood as sections run behind people’s backyards. It’s calm, green, and low-key, with enough birdsong and forest smell to feel like you’ve stepped away from the road without actually going far.

Right now, people describe the Kinnikinnick Park Red Trail as a small, flat, peaceful walk with no real challenges, so running shoes are fine and it’s suitable for almost any fitness level. Because parts of the route border private property, keep dogs leashed and voices down near the houses. The trail can get a bit damp in the rainy months, but it’s usable year-round, making it a reliable go-to Sechelt walk when you don’t have time or energy for a bigger adventure.
