Trail Description
Burnett Falls Trail in Sechelt is the definition of low effort, solid reward. This tiny 0.5 km out-and-back climb takes around 10 minutes, gains just 27 m, and lands you at a surprisingly tall waterfall tucked into a steep little canyon. It’s an easy walk that plenty of people with limited fitness or heart issues have managed by taking it slow.
The trail starts from a small pullout and heads mostly uphill right away, winding through second-growth forest toward the creek. You’ll hear Burnett Creek long before you see the falls, and the canyon feels cool and green with a clear stream running below. At the viewpoint there’s a bench where you can sit, watch the water drop across the canyon, and catch the sun shining through the trees when it’s not raining.
Recent hikers say the Burnett Falls Trail is usually in good condition and drains well, even after a wet morning, though flow at the falls is better in spring and after rain than in late summer. Parking is limited, so don’t expect a big lot, and be aware there’s a gravel/concrete operation nearby; machinery noise can cut into the quiet and the hillside across the canyon is being worked, so the area is changing. This one works well as a quick stop on a Sechelt day of beach hopping and short walks, and it’s open year-round as long as you’re prepared for slick roots and damp conditions in the rainy months.
