Trail Description

Tramway and White Trail is a solid little climb above Gibsons on the Sunshine Coast, with just enough grunt to feel like a workout without eating your whole day. The 4.3 km out-and-back route gains about 323 m to around 544 m elevation, so expect a steady push rather than a casual stroll. Most hikers wrap it up in just under two hours, making it a good before- or after-work option if you’re local.

From the Elphinstone Cemetery trailhead, the Tramway and White Trail eases you in with a gentle warm-up for the first couple hundred metres, then gets straight to business with a steeper climb for roughly a kilometre. Once you’re up that section, the grade backs off and you wind through classic coastal forest with mossy ground, tall trees, and the occasional peek through the canopy. It’s more about the quiet woods and the leg burn than big open viewpoints, but it feels surprisingly remote given how close it is to Gibsons.

Recent hikers report the trail is overgrown in spots, so expect some brush on your legs and keep an eye out for the route, especially where it winds through the trees. Rocks and roots can be slick on the way down, particularly after rain, so decent footwear and a bit of patience on the descent go a long way. Tramway and White Trail is hikeable most of the year, but it’s at its best on dry spring and fall days, with summer bringing thicker vegetation and winter sometimes adding mud, snow patches, or ice higher up.
