Trail Description

Langdale Falls Trail in Gibsons is a short, punchy hike that gives you a lot of payoff for just an hour on your feet. The route is about 2.6 km out and back with roughly 156 m of gain, so it’s rated moderate, but the challenge comes more from steep, narrow bits than from the distance. If you’re on the Sunshine Coast and want a quick forest adventure with a proper waterfall reward, this is a solid choice.

The trail climbs through classic coastal forest, with big trees, roots underfoot, and sections that feel more like a rugged path than a groomed walk. Views open up as you approach Langdale Falls, where you’ll first see the water from above before the trail drops to a ledge for a better look. There’s a rope line to help you down closer to the falls if you want to hang out by the water, but the exposure near the cliff edge can feel spooky, so move slow and stay focused.

Recent reports say the Langdale Falls Trail has been recently redone in spots and is in good shape, but there are side trails and alternate routes everywhere, so stick to the blue and pink markers to avoid getting off track. Expect narrow sections, roots, and some steep ups and downs near the falls, which can be slick in wet weather. Most people turn around at the main falls viewpoint rather than trying to cross the stream above, and that’s the safer call, especially in shoulder seasons or with kids and dogs. May through October is usually the friendliest window, but on the Sunshine Coast, always assume mud and plan your footwear accordingly.
