Trail Description

Tricouni Berg Lake Trail is one of those classic Sea to Sky hikes that gives you a serious payoff for a relatively short day. This 8.2 km out-and-back near Whistler climbs about 519 m to a turquoise alpine lake at roughly 1509 m, usually done in around three hours. The first part isn’t glamorous, but the lake and surrounding peaks make it a solid “low effort, high reward” option if you’re in the Whistler–Squamish area.

The approach starts on a steep, rocky forest service road that does most of the vertical in the first few kilometres, so expect a grind on loose rock and dust with very little shade. After that, Tricouni Berg Lake Trail turns into a proper singletrack through meadows, mud patches, roots, and a bit of boulder hopping before you pop out at the lake. The water is cold but very swimmable on a warm day, with clear views of Tricouni Peak and lots of flat spots along the shore for lunch or a tent if you’re camping.

Recent hikers report the Chance Creek FSR is rough and rocky but doable in an SUV; small cars can make it with care, though many people end up parking short of the true trailhead. Expect mud in the meadows, some overgrown sections, and bugs from late spring through mid-summer, so waterproof boots, bug spray, and long sleeves are smart. There’s minimal shade and it can hit 30°C, so carry plenty of water, watch for wildlife including bears and the odd wolverine sighting, and aim for late summer to fall for fewer mosquitoes and cooler hiking temps on this Whistler-area favourite.
