Trail Description
Brandywine Snowmobile Trail in Whistler is a rough, rocky out-and-back route that feels more like a rugged access road than a casual cruise. It runs about 8.7 km with around 555 m of elevation gain, topping out near 945 m, and is rated challenging for good reason. Most folks use it as a 4x4 or snowmobile access track rather than a hiking trail, so expect noise and vehicles, not solitude.
Walking the Brandywine Snowmobile Trail is basically following a wide gravel and rock road as it climbs steadily through the forested slopes above Whistler. The views open up in patches to surrounding hills and cutblocks, with distant peaks showing on clear days, but this is more about access and elevation than big scenery payoffs. It’s an out-and-back, so what you grind up on the way in, you’ll be picking your way back down over the same loose rock and ruts.
Current reports mention a stock Subaru Forester making it up but losing a hubcap and smacking the undercarriage on rocks, which tells you a lot about conditions: rough, rutted, and better suited to high-clearance vehicles. If you’re hiking, sturdy boots, good ankles, and a tolerance for road walking are key, and watch for fast-moving machines, especially on weekends. The trail is accessible year-round out of Whistler, but snow and ice in winter turn it into true snowmobile territory, while spring and fall can be muddy with lingering snow higher up, so pick your season and gear with that in mind.
