Trail Description
Beverly Lake via Rainbow Lake Trail is one of those big Whistler days that actually feels doable if you’ve got some fitness and a full tank of motivation. This 24.5 km out-and-back route climbs about 1,214 m to around 1,659 m, and most people take 8–9 hours, including a solid break at the lake. It’s rated difficult more for the length, rocky sections, and navigation past Rainbow Lake than for any brutal, sustained climb.
The hike starts from the Rainbow Lake trailhead near Whistler and works up through shaded forest, which is a lifesaver on hot days. The grade is mostly gentle to moderate up to Rainbow Lake, with a well-maintained path, bridges, and classic coastal forest vibes. Past Rainbow Lake and Ninja Lakes, it gets more rugged and rocky, with some boulder fields, route finding, creek crossings, and then big open views over Beverly Lake and the surrounding peaks, plus a quiet, remote feel once you leave the main crowds behind.
Recent hikers say bugs can be bad in the trees earlier in the season, then it turns hot and exposed once you break into the alpine, so bring bug spray, sunscreen, and lots of water. Navigation after Rainbow Lake is the real crux: ignore side trails, download the Beverly Lake via Rainbow Lake Trail map on AllTrails, and stick to that route, especially near Ninja Lakes where ribbons and side paths get confusing. Go clockwise around Beverly Lake to reach the picnic table and best viewpoints; late summer to early fall is the sweet spot, with dry trail, no snow, and a decent shot at having the lake mostly to yourself.
