Trail Description

Trial and Error, Section 102 Loop in Whistler is a mellow forest wander with just enough up and down to feel like a real hike without wiping you out. At 6.4 km with about 283 m of gain and a high point around 800 m, it usually takes just over two hours at a relaxed pace. It’s technically an easy loop, but the mix of roots, rocks, and bike traffic keeps you paying attention.

The trail weaves through classic Whistler forest with plenty of shade, mossy ground, and that damp coastal air. You’ll cross sections built for mountain bikes, roll through short climbs and gentle descents, and get occasional openings with filtered views of the surrounding slopes. It’s more about the feel of being in the woods than big viewpoints, and the loop layout makes it simple to follow without much route-finding stress.

Trial and Error, Section 102 Loop is popular with mountain bikers, so hikers should keep ears open and step aside when needed, especially on evenings and weekends. Expect some muddy or slick patches in shoulder season, plus roots that stay greasy after rain, but overall the grade is forgiving and manageable for most hikers. Best hiking conditions are usually April through September, with snow and ice more likely outside that window, so plan footwear and timing with that in mind and aim for quieter times of day if you want more solitude.
