Trail Description

Shit Happens, Big Kahuna, and Section 102 MTB Loop is a classic Whistler singletrack sampler, winding 9.3 km through the forest with about 369 m of elevation gain and a high point around 811 m. It’s rated moderate for hikers, but the constant roots, rocks, and bike traffic keep you on your toes, so it feels more like a technical forest walk than a casual stroll. Most people hike it in just over two hours if they keep a steady pace.

The loop links several well-known bike trails, so you’ll be weaving through dense coastal forest, crossing wooden bridges, and stepping over plenty of roots. Openings in the trees give quick views of the surrounding Whistler valley and nearby slopes, but the real draw is the classic West Coast feel: damp earth, mossy trunks, and tight, winding singletrack that makes you feel deep in the woods even though you’re close to town.

Because Shit Happens, Big Kahuna, and Section 102 are designed as mountain bike trails, expect riders, especially on weekends and dry days between May and October. Hike it counterflow to the usual bike direction only if you’re very alert, and be ready to step off to the side on narrow sections. The trail gets slick after rain, with greasy roots and muddy patches, so good tread and maybe poles help, and shoulder seasons can bring lingering snow or ice in shaded spots around the 800 m mark, so check recent reports before heading out from Whistler.
