Trail Description

The Real Life, Finger Lakes, and Alexander Falls Loop in Whistler is one of those routes that looks tame on paper but feels like a real adventure under your boots. At about 9.2 km with 375 m of gain and a top elevation around 1010 m, it’s tagged as moderate and usually takes just under 3 hours, but recent hikers say it often runs a bit longer, closer to 10 km depending on your exact start point in the Callaghan Valley.

You kick things off on the Real Life Trail, a groomed, multi-use track that’s gentle, straightforward, and honestly not very thrilling for views. The character changes as soon as you turn onto the Finger Lakes Trail, where you’re suddenly in deep forest with big old trees, rolling terrain, and in winter, a ton of snow that makes it feel far more remote. The short detour to Alexander Falls is the payoff: a powerful cascade that’s mostly flowing with some ice in colder months, loud and impressive even if you can’t get right up close.

Current reports around Whistler say snow is still deep in season, with sections of melt and ice, sketchy creek crossings, and a steep descent near Alexander Falls that can be too much for basic snowshoes. Microspikes or snowshoes with solid traction are strongly recommended, and several people warn not to attempt it in spring slush without proper gear unless you enjoy post-holing. This loop sits inside the Ski Callaghan network and Alexander Falls Recreation Site, so expect trail fees from Callaghan Country in winter and be ready for staff checking passes; it’s quieter than the main Whistler trails, but go prepared and you’ll get a peaceful, varied day out.
