Trail Description

Organ Donor to Upper Bears in Whistler, British Columbia is a punchy 8.9 km loop that climbs hard and keeps it interesting the whole way. With 836 m of gain up to around 1,396 m, it’s a solid workout that most strong hikers and trail runners will wrap up in about three hours. It’s rated difficult for a reason, so expect a proper grind rather than a casual stroll.

The loop weaves through classic Whistler forest with tight, rooty sections and steady climbing, then opens up in spots with glimpses of surrounding peaks and the valley below. The Organ Donor to Upper Bears route is best if you enjoy technical singletrack, short punchy climbs, and the feeling of being out on a real mountain trail rather than a groomed path. You’ll share sections with mountain bikers, especially on weekends, but hiking it during quieter hours gives you more space and a bit of that backcountry feel close to town.

Current info and past reports line up: this trail is popular with riders, and hikers should stay alert, step aside quickly, and avoid wearing headphones. The loop usually comes into shape from about April through September, with lingering snow and mud early in the season and slick roots after rain. Grippy footwear, poles for the steeper sections, and a decent level of fitness go a long way on Organ Donor to Upper Bears, and starting earlier in the day helps you dodge both heat and bike traffic.
