Trail Description
Organ Donor and Rock Candy Loop in Whistler, British Columbia is a short but steep grind that feels bigger than its 7.2 km distance. With about 729 m of elevation gain and a high point around 1125 m, this loop is rated difficult for a reason, and most hikers take just over 3 hours to get it done. It’s known more as a mountain biking route, but hikers who don’t mind sharing the trail get a rugged, quiet alternative to the crowded tourist spots.
The loop usually runs up Organ Donor Left, cuts across to Rock Candy, then back via Organ Donor Right before dropping again on Organ Donor Left to the valley. Expect punchy climbs, technical roots, and rocky sections more like a bike trail than a manicured hiking path. Forest dominates the views, but you’ll find a few breaks in the trees with glimpses toward the surrounding Whistler mountains and valley.
Current reports highlight exactly what you’d expect from a Whistler black-diamond style trail: steep, rough, and slick when wet, with fast bike traffic in peak riding hours. Hikers should go early morning or later in the day, keep ears open for riders, and be ready to step aside on narrow sections. Snow can linger at higher points in spring, and fall brings slippery roots and leaves, so the Organ Donor and Rock Candy Loop is best from late spring to early fall for most people comfortable with demanding terrain.
