Trail Description
Mel’s Dilemma in Whistler, British Columbia is about as low-commitment as a hike gets: a short 1 km loop with just 17 m of elevation gain and an average time of around 14 minutes. It’s more of a relaxed forest wander than a workout, which makes it an easy add-on if you’re already in the area for other trails or bike routes.
The loop winds through classic Whistler forest, with soft dirt underfoot, plenty of roots, and a mix of shade and filtered light. You won’t get big mountain views or dramatic vistas here; the appeal is the quiet, the trees, and the chance to stretch your legs without having to gear up for a serious mission.
Mel’s Dilemma is rated very easy, but it still has typical coastal forest quirks: expect some mud after rain, slick roots, and the odd puddle, especially in spring. The trail is shared with mountain bikers, so keep an ear out and step aside when they come through. April through October is the most comfortable window for hiking, though locals may still use it outside those months depending on snow and ice; sturdy shoes and a bit of awareness go a long way here.
