Trail Description

Madeley Creek Loop is a mellow 4.2 km loop in the Callaghan Valley near Whistler, better known in winter as a green cross-country ski trail than a classic hiking route. At only 122 m of gain and topping out around 868 m, it’s an easy outing on paper, usually wrapped up in under an hour. Expect a quiet feel compared to Whistler Village trails, with a mix of skiers in winter and the odd walker or biker in summer.

The route itself follows forest service roads and wide Nordic tracks more than narrow singletrack, so it’s more about steady movement than technical terrain. You’re mostly in the trees with rolling ups and downs, with occasional openings where you get glimpses of surrounding Callaghan peaks, especially if you link it from Neverland or other nearby loops. On bikes, those short climbs and loose gravel sections can feel more like a moderate workout, especially for kids or newer riders.

In winter, Madeley Creek Loop near Whistler is usually groomed for cross-country skiing, and recent reports mention fresh snow, slightly frozen sections, and skier-only stretches, with some nearby loops still closed. In summer, expect shade, some bugs, loose rock patches, and the odd fence to maneuver around if you’re biking. Bears are known in the area, so carry bear spray, make noise, and check current trail and access updates for the Callaghan side before you go, as grooming, closures, and conditions can change quickly through the season.
