Trail Description
Lost Lake Nature Trail in Whistler is the quieter, softer side of this busy resort town. This easy 2.9 km loop only gains about 89 m, takes under an hour for most people, and gives you that classic coastal forest feel without needing a full-day mission. It’s a solid choice if you want a mellow walk to the lake with real woods instead of just a gravel road.
The key here is to stick to the actual Lost Lake Nature Trail, not the wide multi-use gravel path full of runners and bikes. The walking-only route winds along the creek, through shaded forest, and up gentle slopes with lichens, fungi, and mossy logs everywhere. As you get close to Lost Lake, look for the narrow path that hugs about a third of the shoreline for better water views and a more relaxed vibe than the main road sitting farther back.
Recent hikers say the first hundred meters near the trailhead can be a bit muddy, but it quickly turns into a dry, duffy singletrack when conditions are good. In summer and fall the trail is usually straightforward and quiet, even on busy weekends, though there are lots of junctions so having a map app helps. Lost Lake Nature Trail is not open for regular hiking in winter, when the area turns into paid cross-country and snowshoe trails, so plan your visit for spring through fall if you want the full forest-and-lake loop on foot.
