Trail Description

Lost Lake Extended Loop in Whistler is the “long way round” the classic Lost Lake area, giving you more time in the forest without being a grind. At 6.6 km with about 218 m of gain, it’s rated easy and usually takes just under two hours, so it feels more like a relaxed walk than a serious hike. You’re close to the village but it feels surprisingly quiet once you get into the trees.

The loop winds on a mix of wide shared paths and narrower singletrack that’s mostly used by mountain bikers, so expect a few step-asides and keep one ear open. Views come in flashes: filtered looks over Green Lake, shady stretches of mossy forest, and then the payoff at Lost Lake itself, where lots of people stop for a swim on warm days. The route doesn’t hug the shoreline the whole time, so if you want more time by the water you can cut things shorter and loop closer to the lake.

Right now, people are calling Lost Lake Extended Loop easy, well signed, and in great condition, but also warning that it overlaps heavily with bike trails, especially on thinner higher sections. If you’re walking or running, go earlier in the day to avoid the busiest riding window and stay alert on blind corners. In winter, this area switches to a paid cross-country ski network and you’ll need microspikes or snowshoes on the dedicated walking routes, while late spring through fall is best for a dry, simple loop and a dip in Lost Lake after.
