Trail Description

Lost Lake in Whistler is the classic “easy win” hike: close to the village, low effort, and big on views. This 4 km loop has about 106 m of gentle gain, tops out around 713 m, and usually takes just over an hour, unless you stop a lot to stare at the water, which you probably will.

The Lost Lake loop is a mix of paved and packed dirt paths, winding through quiet forest and popping out at viewpoints, docks, and small beaches around the lake. The trail is well marked, mostly flat, and shared with runners, casual walkers, and, on some sections, bikes. You can walk to the trailhead from Whistler Village or the Upper Village, then follow the loop around the shoreline with constant lake views and a few side nature trails if you want to explore more.

Recent hikers say mornings are calm and quiet, while sunny afternoons get busy with swimmers, dogs, and picnics. In fall, the colours are strong and even a cool, rainy 2°C jog feels worth it; in summer, it’s all about swimming spots and hanging on the docks. The trail is very accessible year-round, but in winter Lost Lake in Whistler converts to a lit green cross-country ski route, so hiking access is limited then. Parking at Lots 4 and 5 is paid by app during the day and free after about 6:15 pm; there are washrooms at the Passive House/Austria House, and it’s an easy, family-friendly loop as long as you’re okay sharing the space with bikes, dogs, and the occasional tiny toad crossing the path.
