Trail Description

Keg Peak from Brew Hut is a short but rewarding side mission in the Whistler backcountry, tacked onto an overnight at the cozy Brew Hut. The route is about 4.3 km return with 232 m of gain, topping out around 1762 m, so it’s more about wandering along the alpine ridge than grinding out a huge climb. Expect a moderate effort that feels bigger in winter conditions, with plenty of time to soak in the views.

From Brew Hut, the Keg Peak route rolls up and down over open terrain, with a few steeper sections that feel punchier when the snow is deep. On a clear day you get wide mountain views almost the entire way, with classic Coast Range peaks lining the horizon and the hut shrinking behind you as you push toward the summit. It’s an out-and-back, so you can turn around at any point if weather, snow, or energy levels aren’t lining up.

Recent groups heading to Keg Peak from Brew Hut in late March reported deep powder, slow travel, and some time spent hunting for the route, even with snowshoes. Plan extra time compared to the dry-season estimate of about 1 hour 35 minutes, and expect more like a 3-hour round trip in winter conditions. Bring a GPS track, solid navigation skills, and full winter gear; the wind can be gentle one minute and harsh the next. The approach to Brew Hut itself is a full-day effort from the Whistler area, so most people treat Keg Peak as a relaxed second-day objective once they’ve enjoyed a night at the hut.
