Trail Description

Into the Woods and Woods Lake Trail in Whistler is one of those routes that sounds better on paper than it currently feels underfoot. On a map, it’s an 11.3 km out-and-back with about 522 m of gain to roughly 1,179 m, rated moderate and taking just under 4 hours. In reality right now, it’s more of a rough adventure hike than a clean, maintained trail.

The first stretch follows typical Whistler forest terrain, with some decent elevation to keep your legs honest and the odd opening where you can catch your breath and enjoy the quiet. As you push deeper toward Woods Lake, the route gets wilder, with sections that feel more like a faint route than a defined path. The lake itself is calm and scenic, but don’t expect established viewpoints, beaches, or easy shoreline wandering.

Current reports are clear: Into the Woods and Woods Lake Trail is badly overgrown, with dense bushwhacking for long sections and no real access down to the water. Long pants, long sleeves, and a solid sense of direction are pretty much mandatory, and this is not a great pick if you dislike pushing through brush or losing the trail. Aim for the drier months between spring and fall, start early, download a GPS track, and be ready to turn around if the route stops feeling safe or enjoyable.
