Trail Description

19 Mile Creek Trail to Iceberg Lake is one of those Whistler hikes that doesn’t get the same hype as the big-name classics, but locals know it’s a gem. This 14.2 km out-and-back climbs about 967 m to around 1,611 m, so expect a solid workout and about 5.5–6 hours on your feet. If you’re up for a challenging day with big mountain payoff, this one delivers.

The trail starts right out of the gate with a steep grind through dense forest, then eases into more rolling terrain as you follow 19 Mile Creek. As you break into the alpine meadows, the whole thing opens up: flower-filled slopes, multiple waterfalls, clear streams, and steady views up to the glacier above Iceberg Lake. The final push is rocky, steep, and a bit of a boulder hop, but standing right under the glacier with that blue-green lake below you feels wild for something this close to Whistler.

Recent hikers report the 19 Mile Creek Trail is very well marked and maintained, but don’t underestimate it; folks new to hiking are calling it “not intermediate” and “quite the ascent.” Street parking in the Alpine Meadows area is limited, so arrive early, and don’t count on facilities at the trailhead; there’s a rough outhouse higher up that can get gross. Expect aggressive mosquitoes and other biting bugs in summer, cooler temps and strong wind off the glacier at the lake, and lingering snow and wet, muddy sections in the shoulder seasons, so bring waterproof boots, layers, and maybe poles. Bears are around, even if most people only see scat, so stay alert and keep dogs leashed.
