Trail Description

Cheakamus River Suspension Bridge Loop in Whistler is an easy, fast escape from the village with way better payoff than the stats suggest. This 5.3 km loop only climbs about 162 m and tops out around 696 m, so most people finish it in about an hour and a half, but you still get strong river views, a solid suspension bridge crossing, and enough short ups and downs to feel like a real hike, not just a stroll.

The loop usually runs up the Far Side trail to the bridge, then back on Riverside, giving you two very different vibes. Far Side feels more natural and wild, with deeper forest, fewer houses, and steady river noise; Riverside brings you closer to the water with a few access spots, but also passes some residential areas and ongoing construction on the Cheakamus side. The suspension bridge itself is the clear highlight, hanging over fast, blue-white water that’s running at serious Class IV–V levels in peak flow.

Right now, expect mostly shaded walking, shared use with mountain bikers, and some construction and repairs on sections of Far Side, plus dust on the access road when vehicles pass. Signage is hit or miss, so having a map app helps, and the rough gravel road to the parking lot is easier with a higher-clearance vehicle. Cheakamus River Suspension Bridge Loop is generally snow-free spring to fall, can get muddy or snowy in winter storms, and works well for families, dogs (often off leash), and trail runners who want an easy loop close to Whistler without committing to a full mountain mission.
