Trail Description

Cheakamus Farside Trail in Whistler is an easy out-and-back riverside walk with a big payoff for not much effort. At 7.1 km with about 229 m of gain and a max altitude around 739 m, it usually takes just over 2 hours, making it a solid half-day outing without wiping you out.

The trail follows the Cheakamus River through dense forest, with the constant roar of the water beside you; one hiker even measured it at 78 decibels in July. Views along the Cheakamus Farside Trail are all about fast-moving water, canyon walls, and the standout suspension bridge, which gives you a great lookout up and down the river. There are some houses set back from the trail near the start, but once you’re in the trees, it’s all river and forest.

Recent hikers say the route is well groomed and clearly marked, but note that some apps don’t show the exact trailhead correctly, so double-check directions before you go. Locals recommend hiking upriver on the right side of the Cheakamus as it flows down for the best experience. The trail is generally easy and accessible most of the year, though it can be damp or slick after rain, so light hikers with decent grip are a good idea.
