Trail Description

Callaghan Waterfalls Trail is a short but punchy out-and-back route tucked off Callaghan Valley Road, a quick drive from Whistler. At just 0.6 km with about 45 m of elevation gain, it’s over fast but feels more serious than the stats suggest, thanks to the steep drop down to the falls and climb back out.

The trail drops quickly through forest toward the sound of rushing water, with rough, rooty sections and a bit of scrambling depending on how close you try to get to the creek. Views are mostly in the trees until you reach the waterfall area, where you get that classic Callaghan Valley feel with cold spray, mossy rock, and dense coastal forest all around.

Right now, the biggest challenge with Callaghan Waterfalls Trail near Whistler isn’t the hike itself, it’s finding it. Recent hikers report very limited roadside parking and an overgrown, hard-to-spot trailhead that took multiple attempts to locate, with some people turning back before even starting. Expect brushy sections, carry a GPS map or offline app, wear solid footwear for the steep bits, and don’t block the road when you pull over. This one is best from late spring to fall when the route is drier and daylight is longer, and it’s really for those who are comfortable with rough, lightly maintained trails and a bit of route-finding.
