Trail Description
The Brandywine Trail Loop to Cal-Cheak Suspension Bridge near Whistler sounds like a big adventure on paper: 9.2 km, easy grade, gentle 211 m of gain, and a solid half-day outing through forest, river, and viewpoints. In reality, most locals are now treating it as an out-and-back to the falls and the Cal-Cheak Suspension Bridge, not a true loop, because of private property closures and confusing signage.
The walking itself is straightforward: wide, mostly flat forest trail with a few short ups and downs and a max altitude of around 534 m, so you’re never really grinding. Brandywine Falls is the clear highlight, with strong flow and classic Sea to Sky canyon views, and the side trip to the Cal-Cheak Suspension Bridge adds a fun bit of exposure over the river. Outside those spots, expect long stretches of ordinary second-growth forest and ponds rather than big mountain vistas, so this one is more about a relaxed walk than huge scenery.
Current conditions on the Brandywine Trail Loop to Cal-Cheak Suspension Bridge are where you need to pay attention. The loop section that crosses toward the campground and Lava Lake is blocked by private property and no-trespassing signs, so do not try to complete it as a full loop or follow the railroad tracks around; it’s unsafe, narrow in spots, and there’s been a lot of bear scat reported. Treat this as an easy out-and-back from the Brandywine Falls parking area, add the suspension bridge if you want extra distance, bring strong bug spray for the pondier sections, and aim for May to October when the trail is clear and the falls are running well.
