Trail Description

Brandywine Meadows near Whistler is one of those hikes that makes you work hard early, then pays you back big at the top. The full out-and-back route is about 11.1 km with roughly 807 m of gain to around 1550 m, so it’s firmly in the challenging category and usually takes 4–5 hours. Most people come for the alpine meadow and surrounding peaks, and it really does live up to the hype when conditions line up.

The trail from the lower access climbs steeply through forest right away, with roots, deadfall, and a steady grind for the first couple of kilometres. Once you break out toward Brandywine Meadows, the terrain opens into a broad alpine valley with streams, pools, fall colours later in the season, and big views toward Brandywine Mountain, Black Tusk, and Garibaldi. On a warm day you can cool your feet in icy creeks, wander around the bowl, or just sit in the grass and watch the light move across the ridges.

Access is often the crux here: the forest service road is rough, potholed, and better suited to high-clearance SUVs or 4x4s, even just to the lower parking lot, and the upper trailhead really does call for clearance and good driving. Expect steep, slippery roots on the descent, mud and lingering snow patches near the meadows well into shoulder seasons, and colder, windier air up high than at the car, so bring layers, waterproof boots, and plenty of water or a filter. Brandywine Meadows is busiest July through early October, with snow, ice, and deeper mud outside that window, so plan for changing conditions and give yourself time rather than racing the clock.
