Trail Description

Big Timber Loop in Whistler is a short, punchy hike that feels a bit more rugged than its stats suggest. At 3.2 km with about 181 m of gain and a high point around 839 m, it’s a solid moderate outing that most people knock off in just over an hour, but it still gives you that “real trail” vibe right by the village.

The loop winds through classic Whistler forest with a mix of roots, rocks, and sections that feel more like a multi-use trail than a smooth walking path. You’ll get filtered views through the trees and the occasional peek at surrounding slopes, but the appeal here is more about the quiet woods and the rolling terrain than big open vistas.

Recent hikers on Big Timber Loop report bear activity, so bring bear spray if you have it, make noise, and keep dogs leashed and close. Finding the cleanest connector back to Whistler Village can be confusing, and some people end up on a steep bike run for part of the way, so download an offline map and watch for bike traffic. The trail is usually good from late spring through fall, but expect slick roots after rain and possible snow or ice early and late in the season, which can bump the difficulty up a notch.
