Trail Description

The Vancouver Family-Friendly Walking Tour is an easy out-and-back route that strings together some of the city’s best waterfront scenery with almost no effort required. At 9.8 km with only 75 m of gain and a max elevation around 19 m, it’s more of a relaxed urban adventure than a hike, making it ideal for kids, strollers, visiting relatives, or anyone easing into longer walks.

Starting near the Science World area and following the shore toward Jericho Beach, this Vancouver walk stays close to the water instead of cutting through back streets, which is exactly why locals love it. You get constant views of False Creek, downtown’s skyline, the North Shore mountains, and busy marinas, with plenty of spots to pause for coffee, snacks, or a playground stop. On a clear day it feels like a highlight reel of central Vancouver in under two hours.

Recent reports say this route is “one of the nicest” in Vancouver for a run or walk, but note there is a partial closure between Maritime and Granville, so expect a short detour and watch for signage. The paved path is shared with bikes, so keep kids and dogs close and be aware of faster traffic. It’s walkable year-round thanks to the city’s mild climate, though views are at their best on dry days when the mountains are out and the wind off the water is calm.
