Trail Description

Trout Lake Loop in Vancouver is one of those quick city escapes that actually feels like a break. The loop is only 1.3 km, almost completely flat, and usually takes about 15 minutes, so it’s more of a relaxed stroll than a hike. It’s an easy way to stretch your legs, grab some fresh air, and still be close to everything in East Van.

The loop circles Trout Lake in John Hendry Park, with changing views of the water, the surrounding trees, and plenty of bird activity. You’ll pass community gardens, open grassy areas, and a few quiet spots where you can sit, watch the ducks, or just hang out with a coffee. Families, dog walkers, and casual walkers use this path a lot, and there are washrooms and picnic areas nearby, which makes it feel more like a neighbourhood hub than a remote trail.

Right now, recent rain has made some sections of the Trout Lake Loop pretty muddy, and parts of the path closest to the lake are flooded, so expect wet shoes if you try to hug the shoreline. The surface can be uneven in spots, so it’s not ideal for dress shoes or strollers on a stormy week. Trout Lake in Vancouver is walkable year-round, but it’s most enjoyable in drier weather, or on a cool summer evening when you can linger, people-watch, and maybe stay for a picnic or a meetup in the park.
