Trail Description

Pacific Spirit North and South Loop is one of those “how is this in the city?” routes right on Vancouver’s west side, wrapping around the UBC area. At 16.1 km with only about 203 m of gain and a high point under 100 m, it’s long but easy, more about time on your feet than grinding climbs. You’re on good paths the whole way, so it’s a relaxed half-day outing that still feels like a real escape.

Walking the loop, you move through classic Pacific Spirit Regional Park forest with big trees, soft dirt, and that damp, green coastal vibe, then pop out near beaches and campus edges before diving back under the canopy. The north and south sections feel slightly different, and small changes in light and terrain keep it from getting repetitive. People are often surprised by features like the deep ravine near the end, and some stretches have that almost tropical feel with dense vegetation and filtered light.

Recent hikers call the Pacific Spirit North and South Loop easy, dog friendly, and great for running, with lots of joggable sections if you’re in trail shoes. Expect a steady flow of mountain bikers, runners, and leashed dogs, with most users courteous, though you should stay alert for the odd fast rider. The trail is open year-round and handles rain well, but it can get muddy and slick in spots, so plan for damp conditions, bring a map or GPS to handle the many unmarked intersections, and finish with a coffee from one of the nearby UBC campus cafés.
