Trail Description

North Arm Bridge Bikeway in Vancouver, BC is a quick, no-nonsense urban link rather than a classic forest hike. At just 1.1 km point to point with almost no elevation gain, it’s an easy 13-minute stroll or spin that connects West Kent Avenue North to River Drive across the Fraser River. It’s a handy route for commuters, runners, and cyclists who want a fast way over the water without dealing with traffic.

The experience is very urban and industrial: about 95% cement, 5% gravel, with steady noise from traffic and the nearby rail and port areas. Crossing the North Arm Bridge gives you open views up and down the Fraser River, and you can watch planes coming and going from Vancouver International Airport over Sea Island to the west. It’s more about movement and city energy than nature, but the river and sky keep it from feeling completely closed in.

Current reports say the pavement on the North Arm Bridge Bikeway is in good shape, but you do need to pay attention to signage and lanes, especially when you’re on the Fraser bridge section so you don’t accidentally take the off-ramp onto the island. Expect bikes, e-bikes, runners, and walkers sharing the route, so keep right and stay alert at intersections. The trail is open year-round, though it can be windy and exposed, so bring a layer in cooler months and be ready for rain, glare, and slick surfaces typical of Vancouver’s waterfront paths.
