Trail Description

Fraser River Park in Vancouver is more of a relaxed waterfront wander than a true “hike,” which is exactly why locals love it. This 2.1 km loop is flat, fast, and easy, usually done in under 25 minutes, with just enough views and variety to make a quick walk feel worthwhile. It’s a very easy trail with almost no elevation, making it accessible for kids, strollers, and anyone just looking to stretch their legs by the river.

Walking the Fraser River Park loop, you’ll follow a mix of gravel paths, sandy beach, and short stretches of tree-covered boardwalk right along the edge of the Fraser River. There are several clear viewpoints across to the airport, where you can watch planes take off without a ton of noise, plus nice sightlines to the bridge and traffic lights at night. The loop is compact, so you’re never far from the parking area or neighbourhood streets, and it feels like a calm little pocket of nature in south Vancouver’s Marpole area.

Current reviews agree on one thing: this is basically a dog park with a trail running through it. Expect lots of off-leash dogs, especially outside the May–September on-leash zones on the east side and in the riparian area, and be aware it’s not ideal for running if you’re worried about dogs underfoot. The park is open year-round and works in any season, with quieter vibes in the early morning and nice lights and reflections at night; just plan for a short outing and, if you’re not a dog person, you may want to pick a different Vancouver walk.
