Trail Description

Fraser Foreshore Park Trail is one of the easiest ways to feel “out of the city” while still technically in it. This flat 14 km out-and-back route runs along the Fraser River in Burnaby, right on the edge of Vancouver, with just 54 m of total gain and a max elevation of about 11 m, so it’s more of a relaxed river walk than a hike. Plan for about 2 hours and 40 minutes if you do the full distance at a steady but casual pace.

The Fraser Foreshore Park Trail mixes paved paths, gravel, and forest trail, with constant river views, working tugboats, and plenty of bird life to keep it interesting. The start area can feel a bit busy and industrial with ongoing development, but once you’re on the main path it settles into a calm green corridor that’s popular with walkers, runners, cyclists, and dog owners. It’s especially nice in fall when the deciduous trees light up in colour along the banks.

Recent reports say conditions are excellent, which matches how well this riverside route is usually maintained, but the forest trail sections can still get muddy and puddly after rain, so waterproof shoes are smart if you’re leaving the pavement. Dogs are allowed on leash, and the trail is open year-round, though sections can occasionally close due to flooding or winter conditions, so check the City of Burnaby or park website before you go. If you want an easy, mostly flat urban escape close to Vancouver, Fraser Foreshore Park Trail is a solid go-to in any season.
