Trail Description

Coal Harbour via Stanley Park Seawall is the classic long waterfront walk in Vancouver, linking downtown’s marina views with the full loop around Stanley Park. At 25.4 km out and back with about 178 m of gentle gain, it’s more about distance than climbing, so the “moderate” rating comes from time on your feet. Plan on around five hours if you walk the whole thing, longer if you stop for photos and coffee, which you absolutely will.

The route follows the famous Stanley Park Seawall, hugging the shoreline with nonstop views of Coal Harbour, Burrard Inlet, the North Shore mountains, and the city skyline. The entire Coal Harbour via Stanley Park Seawall trail is paved, with a clear split between bikes and pedestrians, plus separate bike lanes around the park itself. You’ll pass marinas, beaches, floatplanes coming and going, and long stretches of open water where it can get windy on the north and east sides, but the scenery more than makes up for it.

Recent walkers report very clean paths, regular bathrooms, and steady but manageable traffic from runners, walkers, cyclists, and the odd rollerblader. In winter, expect some snow and patches of ice in spots around Stanley Park, though conditions are usually still quite walkable with decent footwear. Because the Coal Harbour via Stanley Park Seawall is long, grab a snack or light meal beforehand, carry water, and be ready for changing wind off the water; this one is doable year-round, but feels best on a clear, cool day when the city and harbor views really open up.
