Trail Description
Arbutus Greenway in Vancouver is an 8.5 km point-to-point urban path that feels like a moving snapshot of the city. With only about 60 m of elevation gain and a top height around 76 m, it’s genuinely very easy and usually takes under two hours at a relaxed pace. It’s popular with locals, so expect company in the form of walkers, runners, and cyclists almost any time of day.
The route follows the old rail corridor parallel to Arbutus Street, rolling through several west side neighbourhoods and community garden pockets that give the walk a surprisingly calm vibe for being in the city. The path is mostly paved and separated into lanes for bikes and pedestrians, which keeps things flowing even when it’s busy. Views are more about city life, gardens, and side glimpses of the North Shore mountains than big summit moments, making Arbutus Greenway more of a “see how Vancouver lives” walk than a wilderness escape.
Recent users mention that the Arbutus Greenway can get quite busy, so aim for earlier mornings or cooler days if you want a quieter experience. There’s very little shade, so on sunny days bring water, a hat, and sunscreen, or save it for cooler weather. Right now there’s a signed diversion between 7th and 10th Avenue, which is easy enough to follow but slightly less accessible for mobility scooters and wheelchairs than usual. The trail is open year-round and stays usable in most conditions, making it a reliable go-to city walk whenever you just want an easy stretch of the legs.
