Trail Description
Acadia and Tower Beaches in Vancouver give you that classic West Coast shoreline walk without needing to drive hours out of the city. This 6.4 km out-and-back route along the base of Point Grey is rated very easy on paper, but the combo of pebbly beach, uneven rocks, and long stair climbs makes it more of a casual workout than a flat city stroll. Expect big ocean views, salty air, and a very Vancouver mix of families, birders, and folks embracing the clothing-optional culture.
The route starts from Acadia Beach and follows the rocky shoreline toward Tower Beach and Wreck Beach, with the trail never climbing much higher than about 81 m. You’ll pass old WWII searchlight towers, watch freighters sitting in English Bay, and listen to the waves while you pick your way over cobbles and driftwood. On clear days, the views across to Vancouver Island and down the Strait of Georgia are a real highlight, especially at sunset when the light hits the water just right.
Recent hikers say the rocks can be slippery and “rubbly,” so wear shoes with decent grip and take your time on the uneven sections. The long staircases in and out of Acadia and Tower Beaches are the toughest part; some people finish the route in around 1.5 hours, but others take closer to 3 with photo and snack breaks. The trail is walkable year-round, but at high tide certain shoreline stretches can be tight or briefly blocked, and remember this is a nude-optional area, especially near Wreck Beach. Dogs are allowed off-leash from October through February, but are not permitted from March through September, so plan accordingly.
