Trail Description
Spirea Loop Trail in Surrey’s Surrey Bend Regional Park is a mellow, no-stress outing when you just want to move your legs without climbing anything. This 2.7 km loop is flat from start to finish, gains only about 14 m, and usually takes around half an hour, so it fits easily before or after work, or as a leg-stretcher on the way to or from the Barnston Island ferry.
The Spirea Loop Trail winds through riverfront forest and open stretches, with sections that run close to the Fraser River for some surprisingly nice views given how close you are to the city. It’s popular for walking, casual runs, and easy bike rides, and it stays pretty quiet compared to other Surrey trails, so you can often hear more birds than people.
The path here is wide, well-maintained, and easy underfoot, with a spacious parking lot, clean picnic tables and shelters, and even a restroom about halfway around. There isn’t much shade, so it can feel hot and exposed on sunny days, and recent visitors mention lots of bugs, so bring spray in warmer months and consider a hat or light long sleeves. Spirea Loop Trail is open year-round, dog friendly on leash, and works well as a quick, very easy loop or as a base to explore the longer riverside connectors and beach areas in Surrey Bend Regional Park.
