Trail Description

Serpentine Trail - Sunny Trail - Perimeter Trail in Surrey, BC is a mellow 7.2 km loop that feels surprisingly green for being right in the city. With only about 84 m of elevation gain and a max altitude around 75 m, it’s an easy outing that most people finish in about an hour and a half. It’s a solid choice if you want a longer walk without a big workout, or you’re looking for a family-friendly loop in Tynehead Regional Park.

The loop mixes forest paths, open stretches, and some paved sections, so the experience changes as you go. Parts of the Perimeter Trail run close to the road and you’ll definitely hear traffic, but that fades once you get deeper into the park and onto the more natural sections. Keep an eye out for big old nurse stumps, towering trees, owls, and plenty of slugs and snails along the Serpentine and Sunny Trail sections, and decide if you want the forested part first or last by choosing your direction around the loop.

Recent hikers describe Serpentine Trail - Sunny Trail - Perimeter Trail as very easy, well maintained, and well serviced, with washrooms and lots of benches along the way. Expect mixed conditions in fall and winter: sections can be muddy, icy, or have standing water, and a few people have had to detour or turn back during heavy rain, so waterproof shoes and some flexibility help. The route can be a bit confusing where paths intersect and bikes use much of the trail, so bring a map app, watch for signs, and plan for more peaceful forest time once you’re away from the highway side of the loop.
