Trail Description

Parsons Trail and Pacific Trail Loop in Surrey’s Surrey Bend Regional Park is an easy, flat 4.3 km walk that feels more like a relaxed outing than a hike. With only 17 m of elevation gain and a max altitude around 14 m, it’s ideal for families, strollers, and dogs, and usually takes under an hour unless you stop a lot. You get a quiet, natural break from the city without having to drive far.

The loop mixes shaded forest, long open grassy stretches, and views of the Fraser River and distant mountains, so the scenery changes often enough to stay interesting. The path is mostly gravel and packed soil, wide and level, making it straightforward even for new hikers. Expect birds, big river views, birch trees, and long, calm sections where you might not see anyone else, especially on weekday afternoons.

Right now, reviews mention generally well-maintained gravel, but also note some muddy and swampy sections where re-gravelling is underway, so bring waterproof shoes or boots after rain or in shoulder seasons. Mosquitoes can be heavy along Parsons Trail, especially near wet areas, so bug spray is a smart move. Parking is easier at the main lot than Barnston Ferry, and Surrey Bend offers toilets, picnic tables, playground, water fountains for both humans and dogs, and open fields for a post-walk run. Check seasonal closure info, as parts of Parsons Trail and Pacific Trail Loop can be affected by Fraser River flooding, with May to September usually offering the driest, easiest conditions.
