Trail Description

Nicomekl Greenway in Surrey, BC is the kind of trail you hit when you just want an easy, no-stress walk with lots of sky and water around you. This 4.5 km out-and-back path is almost completely flat, with only about 16 m of gain and a max elevation of roughly 8 m, so it feels more like a relaxed riverside stroll than a hike. Most people finish it in under an hour, and it suits all ages and fitness levels.

The trail follows the Nicomekl River, with long open stretches, wide views, and that calm “morning feels” energy people rave about. You’ll walk or ride past waterfowl, herons, and ducks, with the river, nearby marina, and golf course adding some variety to the scenery. It’s popular for walking, running, and casual bike rides, and the openness can feel almost prairie-flat, which more than one person has joked feels like being back in Saskatchewan.

Right now, Nicomekl Greenway is in good shape for both walkers and cyclists, with a mostly gravel surface that’s easy on the legs and accessible to strollers and most mobility levels. Some sections narrow up, especially for bikes, so go slow and steady and be ready to share the path. Mornings are especially nice for cooler temps and bird activity, and while you can use the trail year-round, March through October tends to be the most comfortable for longer outings along the water.
