Trail Description

Birch Trail – Willow Trail in Surrey, BC is one of those quick hits of nature that actually feels like a break, not a chore. At just 1.4 km out-and-back with barely any elevation, it’s a very easy walk that most people finish in about 15–20 minutes, making it a solid choice for an after-work reset or a gentle stroll with family.

The path runs through Green Timbers Urban Forest, so you get tall trees, shaded sections, and a soft forest feel even though you’re still in the city. Expect gravel trail, small creeks, plenty of birds, and a pond where you might spot fish, waterfowl, and even beavers if you’re lucky. It’s a calm, steady walk rather than a “viewpoint” hike, more about sounds of the forest than big mountain vistas.

Recent visitors say the Birch Trail – Willow Trail is well maintained, clearly signed, and easy to follow, with picnic tables by the lake if you want to linger. Dogs are allowed but should be leashed; some people have complained about off-leash dogs, so be aware if you’re bringing kids or don’t love surprise greetings. The trail is open year-round and stays enjoyable in most seasons, though it can feel a bit busier on nice evenings when locals use it as their quick nature fix close to home.
