Trail Description

The 168 Street Access Trail - Serpentine Trail - Hawthorn Trail loop in Surrey’s Tynehead Regional Park is an easy, no-stress escape close to the suburbs. At 3.1 km with only about 48 m of gain and a max altitude around 59 m, it’s more of a relaxed nature walk than a hike, usually wrapped up in about 40–45 minutes.

The loop links wide, packed-gravel paths through second-growth forest, open stretches, and the popular Tynehead dog area. You follow sections of the Serpentine River, which adds some nice water views and a bit of wildlife spotting if you slow down and look. Benches pop up along the way, and the gentle grades make it friendly for kids, casual walkers, and anyone easing into hiking.

Recent visitors keep calling out how much they love this trail, especially during the salmon run when you can actually see fish moving in the river, which makes the 168 Street Access Trail - Serpentine Trail - Hawthorn Trail one of the more interesting easy walks in Surrey. Expect lots of dogs, including time through the off-leash area, so if you’re bringing your own pup, keep an eye on signage and leash rules. The loop is open year-round and usually stays in good shape, but after heavy rain some patches can get puddled, so waterproof shoes are smart in fall and winter, while early mornings are best if you prefer a quieter walk.
